Cox Automotive, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Secure Vehicle Transfer mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the App.
Information We Collect
Camera Data
The App uses your device camera to scan VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) barcodes and text. Camera data is processed on-device for optical character recognition (OCR) and is not transmitted to our servers or stored beyond the active session.
NFC Data
The App reads NFC tags containing VIN information. This data is processed locally on your device to initiate the vehicle verification flow.
Location Data
The App may collect approximate location data to support proximity-based verification features. Location data is used only during the active verification session and is not stored persistently.
Authentication Data
The App requires authentication to access verification services. Authentication tokens are stored in memory only during the active session and are cleared upon logout.
Verification Data
When you initiate a vehicle verification, the VIN is sent to our secure servers to process the credential verification request. This data is used solely for the purpose of verifying driver credentials for vehicle release.
How We Use Information
We use the information collected to:
- Verify driver credentials for vehicle pickup authorization
- Process VIN identification via camera OCR, NFC, or manual entry
- Authenticate users to access verification services
- Maintain the security and functionality of the App
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Information may be shared only:
- With our verification service infrastructure to process credential checks
- As required by law, regulation, or legal process
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of Cox Automotive, its users, or others
Data Retention
- Camera and NFC data: Processed on-device in real-time and not retained
- Authentication tokens: Stored in memory only; cleared on logout or app termination
- Verification records: Retained in accordance with Cox Automotive's data retention policies
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect data during transmission and processing, including encryption in transit (TLS) and secure token-based authentication.
Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
